While this is a fair adaptation for picture book readers, it emphasizes Ichabod Crane's faults and pretensions rather than portraying him as a charmingly oblivious doofus from Disney's animated film, and the illustrations are deliberately distorted and grotesque. You can picture Tim Burton ticking off all the reasons why he should make Sleepy Hollow: creepy storyline, a choice misfit outsider role for Johnny Depp, gothic designs. But my high expectations were quickly dashed. Since the cover art reminded me so much of the Disney animated adaptation from my childhood, I had expected something more like Walt Disney's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
